Watertown, SD

We were welcomed to town by two Legion Escorts at the interstate exit and escorted to the American Legion Post 17. We awarded quilts to quite a few veterans. It's always such a humbling experience. It's such a small gesture compared to what they sacrificed. Many hugs were shared. They sent us on our way with coffee and cookies.

Though not a veteran himself, this man is part of the Patriot Honor Guard, and received a quilt on behalf of his veteran father who was not able to attend.

On the Road Again... to Fort Riley Kansas!

Our morning started bright and early at the Underwood American Legion where a great group of people gathered to send us on our way to Fort Riley, Kansas. Thank you to everyone who saw us off, including Bill Barbnecht who coordinated many other American Legion stops for us along the way, Post 489 Commander Frank Makenzie, Father Leroy Schik who prayed over us, and Ray Aafedt and Cal Wolf for being our Legion Rider escorts.

Thank you to the Corner Store on Ottertail Lake for these to-die-for caramel rolls!

Underwood's own Paul Beckman was awarded a Quilt of Valor. He is pictured with Bill Barbnecht.

Carol Olson is already up to no good, but hey, it's her birthday today so she can do whatever she wants!

Home Sweet Home

Today was our last day on the bus for a while! We crossed the state line and the sign that says "Minnesota Welcomes You!" Our trip wouldn't be complete without a stop at a quilt shop, so we had to stop at Millie P's Quilt Shop in Anoka, MN. Randy our bus driver even picked up some fat quarters! Some of our quilters also got a special treat when many of their family members came to spend a little time together while they were in town. After a few hours, it was time to load the bus one last time. It was a great trip, I think everyone was happy to get home!

A special thanks to everyone who made this trip possible! There were many people who put in a countless number of hours working to make this trip a success. Now that we are home, it is time to thread the needle and start over again for the next trip!
